On April 8, Mangelsen Conservation hosted Mangelsen LIVE: A Night of Stories, Science, and Conservation, an unforgettable evening that brought together wildlife advocates, conservation scientists, and passionate storytellers for a powerful conversation about what’s at stake in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE).
The event spotlighted urgent environmental challenges—from habitat fragmentation to the pressures of unchecked development. Among the many voices and visuals shared that evening, one message came through loud and clear: our wild icons are running out of room to roam.
That message was echoed again in the recent release of the 2024 Greater Yellowstone Sprawl Study, a comprehensive report outlining how rapid rural development is reshaping the region. The study specifically mentions Grizzly 399, the beloved and world-famous bear, as a symbol of resilience—and vulnerability. Her increasingly constrained habitat underscores just how close sprawl is to pushing wildlife to the edge.
Grizzly 399’s story is not just about one bear. It’s about an entire ecosystem—and whether we’re willing to protect what makes it wild.
To those who joined us for Mangelsen LIVE, thank you for being part of this movement. Let’s continue to raise awareness, share these stories, and support science-backed conservation that prioritizes wildlife, open spaces, and the people who value both.
